One of my favorite things in the world is talking about “beauty crap”. This is the term those close to me have coined in reference to skincare, makeup, hair, nails, and anything remotely related to the topic. Unsurprisingly, that love of all things beauty led me to beauty school and to work at the makeup counters at Macy’s. Even today, I still read books and magazines and articles and…well, anything that talks about “beauty crap”.
The other thing I have always loved is writing. I made up stories as a kid and even wrote for my middle school newsletter. My two loves came together when I was around 9 and wrote to Vogue asking how to be a Beauty Features Editor for the magazine when I grew up. Bless Anna Wintour and her editors for writing back to a letter written in shoddy cursive on a piece of paper torn from a trapper keeper. Yes, I said letter. This was in the late 1900s before everyone had websites and email. Though they did lay out the journey one might take to get that job, I did not follow it. Instead, I went to beauty school and have spent the last 22+ years in one part of the beauty industry or another. In that time, I have learned even more than I would have as a beauty editor. While I may not be sharing all that I know from a desk within the hallowed halls of Vogue’s Manhattan offices, I am bringing my two loves together again by sharing it on this blog. So, here’s to writing about what I love, sharing my decades of knowledge, and hopefully helping people along the way!
